We need to bring back old school estate taxes. The concept of wealth redistribution has been completely lost the last few decades. People are able to horde wealth and property in perpetuity, which our founding fathers felt was a bad idea.

Appears that the Trib has some quality control issues.

Although this is a far more important topic than the one listed on the front page of the printed paper, it is still not what was advertised.

If and when the Trib changes to the stated topic, please add "None of the Above" or "Who Cares" to the selections.

The wealthy should pay higher taxes. Why are they paying less than the middle class? That's BACKWARDS. Thanks GB for ruining this economy.

What I don't understand is how a 2% personal income tax on somebody that makes over a million dollars hurt the bottom line of a small business owner. That's not a business tax. Why would a "job creator" close up shop or not hire/fire people because his personal income tax notched up 2%? It's like someone saying "well since my favorite shirt is in the dryer and I can't wear it, I guess I'm just going to walk outside naked". It's knee jerk rationale without any basis in logic.

The taxes need to be Fair and Balanced, everybody pay 2cents on every dollar earned, of course the rich will pay more but they wont even notice it, the poor will be paying their fair share so whats complicated about that, Fair and Balanced was the original plan as it is.

@lawdog, i think you are lost on this. you harp on corp's that pay no tax but employ millions that do pay tax. yet you want the true low income people that pay no tax yet get free food, free medical, tax refunds for taxes they never paid, free housing and utilities, you need to re-group, i was always taught you get out of life what you put into it. i'll put it this way, it is like you want to get dealt to in a hand of poker, yet you are the only one that don't have the cash to play. i'll be the first to say i play the hand i am delt, but i payed my ante. nothing in life is free, you have to work to get into the game of life.

Hey, USBlues, Pres. Obama wants to tax those who DO NOT PAY tax, to alleviate the burden on the little guy, namely you and I. In other words, the wealthy and wealthier, large corporations, and all those so called "tax free" a/holes, will have to ante up. Sound good? So, just "DO IT"...O,K,?

When President Obama detailed his newest budget proposal last month. Discussing ways his plan would trim the deficit, he stressed that his plan would achieve $4 trillion in deficit cuts in part by "reducing spending in the tax code" by $1 trillion.

lawdawg...we have been "just doing it" spending wise for years now. you satisfied yet? why are you once again willing to sacrifice more of your tomorrows to feel good just for today some more?

the more we try to spend our way out of the pain the shorter it lasts. just like a bunch of drug addicts.

pahootaman...im not a member of the tea party. democrats and republicans love war and want more of it. the more war for you blood thirsty psychos the better. especially democrats who were all screaming "end the wars! end the wars!" to get your guy elected and now are like bomb "bomb the lybian people! more bombs on pakistan and yemen! yes! we love you obama! bomb everyone you can because bush did it! we want WAR!!!!"

that being said, as far as i can tell, the tea party, which has only been around since 2007/2008 wnats to stop unconstitutional spending, even if that means we face some pain here at first. it seems to me that the reason republicans and democrats dont like the tea party is because they want us to go thru abit of needed pain to fix our problems. R's and D's want to keep exporting our pain in the form of laser guided missiles to the rest of the worlds population. is that kinda close?

a flat tax, don't the poor still get screwed on that deal. It's much easier to accept %15 if you're rich (which is way less than what they're paying now) than someone making $20K-$30K a year?

Again, this shifts the burden onto the poor and middle class to pick up the slack for the rich.

Plus wouldn't a "flat tax" be a little too "socialist" for some of you freedom loving tea baggers out there?

It's mid-afternoon and some of you are still feeling the weekend. C'mon, man, get serious...Yes, the "almighty rich and infamous" should pay their "share". And large corporations as well. That would be a start to budget balancing. However, as a temporary reprieve, this "debt deal" will benefit most people. There must be some starting point. President Obama did a great job to bring down Boehner. Oh, yea, isn't he from Ohio? So,let's just "DO IT", and be satisfied for a change. See ya...
